Westlife , the most successful boy band in the history will be gracing our shore with their everlasting hits such as ‘Flying Without Wings’, ‘Fool Again’, ‘Uptown Girl’, ‘You Raise Me Up’, ‘when you’re looking like that’ and songs from their latest album, ‘Gravity’. For many seeing the 4 hunks, Nicky Byrne, Kian Egan, Mark Feehily and Shane Filan would be a dream come true.
Gravity Tour is directed by creative director William Baker, who is known for his work with Kylie Minogue, Leona Lewis andBjork. With a new touring band and musical director, the group stated this tour will be "bigger and better" then their previous feats.

There fore, this concert is definitely something not to be miss.. Westlife, my favourite all time band since i was a kid.. No doubt, am getting the premier seats for it.. I don't mind spending my whole fortune if I have to get the best seat for the concert.. so people, am broke now.. am no longer available to any outings...spent my whole fortune for the RM503 premier seat.. it is worth afterall..
As, I remembered the last Westlife's concert that I attended till the extend that I had to skip my school with my friend. was the concertthat was held at the National Stadium Bukit Jalil on May 26,2001which means it was 10 years ago since we last met the band.... now, after 10 years, my dream came true again! This time, I am going with the friend of mine who has the same interest towards the band..the so-called longtime die hard fans of the awesome boyband..
But, the sad thing was i called the ticket centre hotline.. and they told me that no camera was allowed =.= So freaking ridiculous.. I dont care, am gonna sneak my camera in.. Mom gave me the green light, cuz she know I was so into Westlife since I was a kid...but she told me that, I am always spending more than what I earn..yes, i have to admit that I spent too much yet I wont deny the fact that
it is worth spending for things that I love

Rade is an English pop-rock band based in Malaysia..... ....The band was originally founded in 2001 as a J-rock cover band by high school friends Jeremy, Kok Keong, and Hung Siew out of their love and passion for J-rock music. Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows Part 2 Breaks $1 Billion Milestone

In a very short period of time Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 has managed to surpass the $1 billion box office mark while taking the number 8 all-time box office spot that was previously occupied by The Dark Night.

The move into the billion dollar club also makes the final Harry Potter film the only one of the eight movies in the franchise to pass that bit milestone mark.

The movie has some hot competition on their hands this year with Transformers: Dark of the Moon already earning $983 million.

If Potter mania keeps up as it has the movie could soon catch up to the pack leaders, although the $2.8 billion earned by Avatar to date seems fairly safe for the moment.

CN Blue to kick off concert in South Korea this September

Calling all fans of CN Blue! The band is reported to be having a concert in South Korea! The announcement was made by FNC Music today as they updated their Twitter account that CN BLue will be holding a two day concert entitled "CNBLUE 2011 ASIA TOUR CONCERT 'BLUESTORM' IN SEOUL" on the 17th and 18th of September. They also revealed the official poster of the event, further exciting fans for the new tour.

The concert name also suggested that the quartet is set to embark on a tour across Asia, but to no exact confirmations yet.

Recently, the band held their second fan meeting in Japan while Jung Yonghwa and Kang Minhyuk are currently busy with the drama "Heartstrings".

siNgaPore English Alternative Rock Band ; Electrico

Electrico is a band from Singapore playing melodic guitar-based rock 'n' roll with great pop hooks and a touch of class. Five people whose music deftly traverses styles and genres, alternating between lush, mellow textures, funky grooves, driving feet-tapping-happy rhythms and frenzied rock explosions, playing tunes that were born from their hearts but that lodge themselves in your head.

In 1996 David Tan, Keith Colaco, Desmond Goh and William Lim Jr decided to form a band to entertain punters at their church food and fun fair. This was "Electric Company". However, they felt that they needed a rhythm section to do what they wanted to do most. Rock.

They found it in Desmond, who was a guitarist in his own right, but forced to play bass with the 6-string slots filled, and William, a friend of Dave's sister who is truly an amazing drummer.

With a common vision to play to screaming fans in Japan firmly in place, Electric Company embarked on 3 years of ups, downs, break ups, broken strings, mosh pits, national service but most importantly rock and roll. With an intense gigging schedule, big and small; publicity, bad and good; and a couple of releases on compilations, Electric Company eventually made a name for themselves in the scene.

But eventually they disbanded, until David Sassoon joined them to form Electrico. Their first few session led them to feel they needed a keyboard, and they found a performer in Amanda Ling.

Electrico is one of the few bands that are truly an indie success, with one album under their name for now, but more to come. Their success is something that you hope will inspire the music scene in the country to further heights, despite the lack of appreciation by our countrymen.

Something About Josephine Goh aka JoJo

Not many of her fans realised that JoJo, a Astro Beauty Pageant contestant, actually started her showbiz career as a pub singer.

Josephine Goh Lee Chen born 29 of March 1983. She was born in KL but brought up in Alor Star, Kedah. She started her early education in a Convent school but transferred to a Chinese primary and secondary school, Keat Hwa, to get closer to her Chinese roots.

From an English educated background, however, she managed to score distinctions in the chinese school and made Mandarin one of her strongest language. She won numerous writing and public speaking awards.

Later, she made another switch from the science stream to doing Mass Communication after much debate if it was a right decision for her. History is her best judge.

JoJo was the host of Astro Talent Quest and she is on her verge of releasing a new EP.

She will be performing live at the Energizing 2010 Countdown Concert @ Queensbay Mall.

maLaya Alternative Rock Band ; EstranGed !

Estranged are a Malaysian alternative rock band that formed in Damansara, Kuala Lumpur in 2001. Currently comprising vocalist Rich Gimbang, lead guitarist Nor "Enha" Hanafi, rhythm guitarist Din Hormatov and drummer Azwin Andy, the band have released two full-length albums: In Hating Memory (2004) and Remain Unknown (2008).

History
The band held their first ever live show in 2001 at TwelveSI. The band has also gone through many changes to its line-up, including original lead guitarist Adzrai departing to further his studies. New grunge-influenced guitarist, Hanafi replaces him. Estranged participated in the "Yamaha Asian Beat Competition" in 2001, finishing 2nd runners-up for the competition.
After Rock the World 4 (Malaysia's annual rock festival), the band started work on their debut 11-track album 'In Hating Memory', released in December 2004. The album includes 10 English tracks, and 1 Malay track. Their first single 'Velocity' started receiving airplay in June 2005, followed by the second single 'Chocolate Syrup'. Both singles were accompanied by music videos, directed by Motion Notion and Tan Chee Meng, respectively.
The band played alongside The All-American Rejects, Hoobastank, Raygun, Boys Like Girls, Pixie Lott, Misha Omar, and Kasabian as one of the live acts at Asia's very first MTV World Stage Live In Malaysia concert that was held in Malaysia on the 15th of August 2009.

Like his birth name, his birth date is also unknown. "Well, sheesh!" you
yell. "Can't you tell me ANY hard fact?" Well, fine, no need to get cranky.
Gackt was born in Okinawa, Japan, with a mixed ethnic background, but
the large majority being Japanese. He speaks Japanese, English, French,
Mandarin, and probably a lot of other languages. His blood type is A, and
his hobbies are dating (he's such a player), martial arts (Gackt works
extremely hard to keep his body as lean and strong as possible), and
billards. He's a little under 6 feet tall, ~very~ lean, and has the bad habit
of smoking. He prefers night to day, hates sweets, and prefers candle light
over electric. It's said that the only lights on in his home are always
candles. "How romantic!" you exclaim. Well, yes, unless you're trying to
read or to just find your way around the house without bumping into
anything. I'm sure the people who visit have their way around memorized.

Gackt's personality, at least in the public eye, is always a funny sight to
see. Although he tries not to smile or laugh too much, Gackt is always
saying the funniest things, sometimes without even the intention to do so.
He's a perfectionist, and if he sees you doing something better then him,
you better bet he'll get better then you in a short time. However, he's
always willing to try anything once, even when it makes him look like a
complete fool. Although Gackt is very talented and very popular, he never
seems to take himself too seriously. (We haven't caught him exclaiming
"Ore sama no bigi ni yoi na~" yet.) The most common way people who
stalk follow Gackt online is 'a dork'. Ah. To know Gackt is to love him.

Now, you're probably sitting there going "OK, now, what does this
individual do?". I will tell you. Gackt is what is known as a JRock Singer.
"JRock?" you say. "What's that?" JRock is a special term used for a
Japanese Rock Singer. Although Gackt's music spans a variety of styles,
I will call him a JRock singer because I can. You may also see him described
as a JPop (Japanese Pop) singer. That's OK too. He is a solo artist along
with his bandmates, of whom are referred to as 'GacktJOB'. GacktJOB is
cool, but since this is a Gackt fansite, we'll just stick with the guy I know
at least something about

"Sing?" you say. "Doesn't he do anything else?" Well, of course he does.

Gackt writes and composes his music, as well as plays such instruments as the piano, guitar, drums, trombone, trumpet, bass, and tuba, although he really only plays piano and guitar on stage. "Wow!" I'm sure you're thinking. "That's a lot!" Well, Gackt is a talented individual. He sings in Japanese, with an occasional English lyric. He also has sung two songs in English and one in Mandarin during his solo career.

But Gackt is not just a singer! "He's not?!" you gasp. No, Gackt is also an
actor. "Man, singers-turned-actors normally suck!" you exclaim. Well, I can't say you're wrong, but in Gackt's case, his acting has gotten better. Gackt most recently starred in the movie "Moon Child", and was quite good for the character he portrayed. Moon Child is available overseas if you would like to check it out. Gackt also appears in a lot of commercials and music shows, and even has a video game character modeled after him! In other words: Gackt is nearly everywhere!

The result is a complex cultural mixture very different from the original indigenous cultures.
Examples of cultural fusion include the fusion of Islam with Hindu in Javanese Abangan belief, the fusion of Hinduism, Buddhism and animism in Bodha, and the fusion of Hinduism and animism in Kaharingan; others could be cited.
Indonesian art-forms express this cultural mix. Wayang, traditional theater-performed puppet shows, were a medium in the spread of Hinduism and Islam amongst Javan villagers. Both Javanese and Balinese dances have stories about ancient Buddhist and Hindu kingdoms, while Islamic art forms and architecture are present in Sumatra, especially in the Minangkabau and Aceh regions. Traditional art, music and sport are combined in a martial art form called Pencak Silat.
Western culture has greatly influenced Indonesia in modern entertainment such as television shows, film and music, as well as political system and issues. India has notably influenced Indonesian songs and movies. A popular type of song is the Indian-rhythmical dangdut, which is often mixed with Arab and Malay folk music.
Despite the influences of foreign culture, some remote Indonesian regions still preserve uniquely indigenous culture. Indigenous ethnic groups Mentawai, Asmat, Dani, Dayak, Toraja and many others are still practising their ethnic rituals, customs and wearing traditional clothes.

Mister also known as Mr. is a Cantonese rock band composed of Desmond Tam, Tom To, Alan Po, Ronny Lay and Quincy Tam on the guitars. The vocal duties are performed by Po, with backing vocals provided by Tam.
The quintet originated from the underground indie scene where they were known as White Noise. Their breakthrough performance was their gig at Alan Tam's birthday party. They were subsequently recommended to Universal Music by himself who was deeply impressed by their skill and talent.

In 2008, Mister released their debut EP titled Mr. (pronounced "Mister", as per band name). It was later re-released as part of their second effort: If I Am....
In 2009, Mister released their first LP titled If I Am... It spawned a number of hit singles, notably "If I Were Eason Chan" and "Mr. Tam", the first being an homage to popular canto pop artist Eason Chan and the latter as a tribute to Alan Tam.
In early 2010, Mister released a compilation titled Like Black, the album contained two new tracks, a mandarin version of "If I Were Eason Chan" and seven remixed versions of songs from their previous efforts If I Am... and Mr.
In March 2010, Mister played two shows at the Hong Kong Coliseum and featured Joey Tang, Patrick Lui and Ricky Chu from veteran canto-rock band Tai Chi and legendary Alan Tam; as well as contemporary pop singer Eason Chan and Hip Hop group LMF. The concerts were successful and were recorded into high definition DVD, which was released in May, 2010.

A Filipino Rock Band ; Rivermaya!

Rivermaya is one of the most influential alternative rock bands in the Philippines that descended from pop and rock explosion of the 90s, propelling the rise of subsequent mainstream rock acts. The band is known for songs "Ulan," "214," "Himala." "KisapMata," "Hinahanap Hanap Kita", "If", "You'll Be Safe Here" and many others. The band is considered by music critics and historians alike as - second to the iconic The Eraserheads (E-Heads) - one of the rock bands that turned the Philippine music scene of the 90s into angst-filled, retrospective, hippie-influenced era. Founded in 1993, the band
musical direction has evolved from simple rock into hard rock, pop, acoustic, metal, progressive, etc. It has recently released an Asian album in Singapore, Thailand, Malaysia, and Indonesia and has become of the few acts that garnered Southeast Asians' music attention.

The very first line-up consisted of Jessie Gonzales on vocals, Kenneth Ilagan on guitar, Nathan Azarcon on bass, Rome Velayo on drums, and Rico Blanco on keyboards. They have been managed by two virtual unknowns in the music industry, Lizza Nakpil and director Chito Roño who both discovered Rivermaya and were initially impressed by what they considered as unconventional form or music direction the band was threading on that time.

In the process of grueling practice sessions, Ilagan was replaced with Perfecto de Castro; Azarcon recruited former Bazurak bandmate, Mark Escueta, to replace Velayo as well as former classmate Francisco "Bamboo" Mañalac to replace Gonzales. As Bamboo Mañalac as frontman, the band started putting together their original songs like "Ulan" "214" and "Awit ng Kabataan" (mostly composed by Rico Blanco) on a demo for consideration of recording companies. By November 1993, the band had released its first album, the self-titled 'Rivermaya", and its first single, "Ulan"; followed by "214". Critically praised for its fresh, excitingly-new pop/rock music, the album went on to become one of the best sellers in the 90s, following up the success of The Eraserheads. Citing artistic differences, de Castro was adamant in leaving the group and founded his own band.

The band's second album "Trip", followed with singles like "Kisapmata", "Himala", and "Panahon Na Naman". An interesting sidebar is that Whilce Portacio, creator of the X-Men's "Bishop", designed the album art for "Trip". In 1998, the band release its 3rd album, "Atomic Bomb", with single "Hinahanap Kita". The album gained positive response from listeners and received heavy airplay from radio stations. During this period, Rivermaya also released the "Rivermaya Remixed" album, put together with the help of deejay Toti Dalmacion of Groove Nation.

The band then embarked on a U.S. tour. It was at this time that Bamboo Mañalac decided to stay in the U.S. and exercise his rights as an American citizen. (Later on, Bamboo Mañalac formed his own band, Bamboo, which, surprisingly, has become popular in its own right). Rivermaya decided to forge on, with Rico Blanco taking on vocals.The result was the "It’s Not Easy Being Green" album which spawned "Nerbyoso", "Shattered Like", and "Rodeo". "If" a song by Geno Georsua, a music major from U.P College of music, was added to their line up in 1998. The band released its 5th studio album, aptly called "Free", entirely for free on the internet as well as on CDs distributed at their gigs. "Free" went on to be named "Best Album 2000" at the NU Rock Awards.

Azarcon departed from the group, signaling a new membership change. Completing the line-up were new guitarists, Kakoi Legaspi (from blues band Mr. Crayon) and Mike Elgar (from 7 Foot Junior) as well as Japs Sergio (from Daydream Cycle) on bass. Together, this lineup released "Tuloy ang Ligaya", preceded by the EP "Alab ng Puso" (featuring a remix by Raimund Marasigan's Squid 9.) The band released the albums "Tuloy ang Ligaya" and "Between the Stars and the Waves" producing "Umaaraw, Umuulan", "Wag Na Init Ulo, Baby", " A Love to Share". "Bali Song", "Sunday Driving", "Table for Two", "241", and "Atat." Kakoi Legaspi resigned for still undisclosed reasons. The band found a variety of partners who commissioned such works as "Liwanag sa Dilim", "Posible" (Southeast Asian Games' Athletes Anthem) and "You'll Be Safe Here." "You'll be Safe Here", originally created as the theme for the ABS-CBN tv series "Spirits" (directed by Rivermaya co-manager Chito S. Rono) would be the song to take Rivermaya outside the country. Released as an EP by Warner Music Philippines, it also became the song that MTV Asia selected for performance at the 2006 Asia Awards. Kelly Rowland of Destiny’s Child introduced the group, and they were backed-up by Thailand’s Royal Symphony Orchestra during live performance.

An album of compiled works, titled "You'll Be Safe Here", is currently being distributed in Singapore, Thailand, Malaysia, and Indonesia. Rivermaya embarked on a series of Asian tours, including at Thailand's Pattaya Music Fest (2004, 2005) as well as Singapore's Mosaic Festival (run by The Esplanade); and Bangkok's Fat Fest as well as in Indonesia's MTV Staying Alive show. In the Philippines, the "Rivermaya Greatest Hits 2006" album with Viva Records was followed by an album dedicated to its music heroes: "Isang Ugat, Isang Dugo". At the end of March 2007, Rivermaya again scored another first for the Philippines as their videos, "You'll Be Safe Here" and the recent video remake "Bali Song" were chosen as the first Asian artists to have full-length music videos featured on the Star World Channel. Star World is known in giving top-rated US and UK entertainment to Asia. On May, 2007, rumors of Rico Blanco quitting the groups surfaced. The band's management team refused to comment, as did the other members. It was not until a few more days before Rico Blanco, the band's chief composer, officially announced his departure from the group. Both Rivermaya and its management have taken the announcement in stride and have denied rumors that the band would disband as a result. "No one member is greater than the whole," declared Rivermaya management in an official statement released on June 14th, 2007. Both fans and industry insiders reacted with relief that the band would carry on. Undeterred by the sudden abandonment, Rivermaya released a new single, "Sayang", penned by Japs Sergio and described by the band as "an open letter to the fans." In addition, Studio 23 (an influential ABS-CBN affiliate channel) announced the selection of Rivermaya to create the new theme song for the station. The new song is titled "Sumigaw" and marks the release of a second single in two months for the band, accelerating Rivermaya's pace for new songs rapidly. That everyone! As an avid follower of Hong Kong media, the famous “四大天王”, or more uncommonly known by their English name as Cantopop Four Heavenly Kings. The most common one I hear is music, in which about 80% of the time I hear it is coming out of my own mouth. Back in the 90s, Jacky Cheung (張學友), Andy Lau (劉德華), Leon Lai (黎明), and Aaron Kwok (郭富城) basically ruled the music industry of Hong Kong.

Jacky Cheung! He has got to be my all time favorite singer. I can’t express exactly how much I love watching and hearing him! He’s appeared in a couple of really good comedies throughout his career, and his singing voice is what really puts him up in the charts. Although it is unfortunately really easy to just take his voice for granted due to its soothing effects. What really got me to appreciate his voice was actually a really funny movie called Future Cops, or 超級學校霸王 which is a really cool Cantonese adaptation of Street Fighters. In the movie, Jacky plays Guile, nicknamed Broom-head in the movie due to his quirky hair style. At one point in the movie, he goes from his really goofy voice, to his beautiful and smooth singing voice. That scene was the exact moment that I fell in love with his voice. Check it out of you get a chance, it is a really funny movie.

Jacky’s voice contains this type of emotion that is harder found in our generation of singers. It is not the lacking of talent that is the problem, there are plenty of talented singers that are around nowadays, but the lack of some of the emotion in many of the songs. Jacky’s music, unlike many of the current day ballads concentrate a lot on breakups and heartbreaks, concentrated on many aspects of love. Those many aspects include the loss of, and the buildup of the emotions related to one who falls in love. One of his most popular songs, 每天愛你多一些, is translated to “Loving you a little more everyday” expresses the feelings one has when being in love. The emotional depth he adds to this song skyrocketed his popularity in the early 90s. But this does not deviate from the nonstop humor that he manages to pour out in his roles as an actor. I especially find his humor extra refreshing, it is the subtle humor from the early years of Cantonese entertainment that will make you smile without you really realizing yourself. When you finally realize you’re smiling, it is simply because you are also laughing really hard on the inside. No matter how I see it, Jacky is definitely one who relies solely on his talent for his fame today, which is what makes me appreciate him all the more! Enjoy! Austronesia, in historical terms, refers to the homeland of the peoples who speak Austronesian languages, including Malay, Filipino, Indonesian, Maori, Malagasy, native Hawaiian, the Fijian language and around a thousand other languages. The Austronesian homeland is thought by linguists to have been prehistoric Taiwan.
The name Austronesia comes from the Latin austrālis "southern" plus the Greek νήσος (nêsos) "island".
However, in contemporary terminology, the word Austronesia pertains to the regions where Austronesian languages are spoken. Austronesia then covers almost half of the globe, although mostly ocean and oceanic islands, starting from Madagascar to the west until Easter Island, to the east. Austronesia as a region has three traditional divisions: Taiwan (Formosa), the Maritime Southeast Asia, and Austronesian Oceania (Micronesia, Melanesia, and Polynesia).

Prehistory and history

Archaeological evidence demonstrates a technological connection between the farming cultures of the south (Southeast Asia and Melanesia) and sites that are first known from mainland China, whereas a combination of archaeological and linguistic evidence has been interpreted as supporting a northern (southern China and Taiwan) origin for the Austronesian language family. In a recent treatment, all Austronesian languages were classified into 10 subfamilies, with all the extra-Formosan languages grouped in one subfamily and with representatives of the remaining 9 known only in Taiwan. It has been argued that these patterns are best explained by dispersal of an agricultural people from Taiwan into insular Southeast Asia, Melanesia, and, ultimately, the remote Pacific. Although this model—termed the “express train to Polynesia”[ is broadly consistent with available data, concerns have been raised. Alternatives to this model posit an indigenous origin for the Austronesian languages in Melanesia or Southeast Asia.

Migration and dispersion
An element in the ancestry of Austronesian-speaking peoples, the one which carried their ancestral language, originated on the island of Taiwan following the migration of pre-Austronesian-speaking peoples from continental Asia approximately 10,000-6000 BC.
According to mainstream "out-of-Taiwan model", a large-scale Austronesian expansion began around 5000-2500 BC. Population growth primarily fueled this migration. These first settlers may have landed in northern Luzon in the archipelago of the Philippines, intermingling with the earlier Australo-Melanesian population who had inhabited the islands since about 23,000 years earlier. Over the next thousand years, Austronesian peoples migrated southeast to the rest of the Philippines, and into the islands of the Celebes Sea, Borneo, and Indonesia. The Austronesian peoples of Maritime Southeast Asia sailed eastward, and spread to the islands of Melanesia and Micronesia between 1200 BC. and 500 AD. respectively. The Austronesian inhabitants that spread westward through Maritime Southeast Asia had reached some parts of mainland Southeast Asia, and later on Madagascar.

Sailing from Melanesia, and Micronesia, the Austronesian peoples discovered Polynesia by 1000 BC. These people settled most of the Pacific Islands. They had settled Easter Island by 300 AD, Hawaii by 400 AD, and into New Zealand by 800 AD. In the Indian Ocean they sailed west from Maritime Southeast Asia; the Austronesian peoples reached Madagascar by 0-500 AD.

Formation of tribes and kingdoms
By the beginning of the first millennium AD, most of the Austronesian inhabitants in Maritime Southeast Asia began trading with India and China which allowed the creation of Indianized kingdoms such as Srivijaya, Melayu, Majapahit, and the establishment of Hinduism and Buddhism. Muslim traders from the Arabian peninsula were thought to have brought Islam by the 10th century. Islam was established as the dominant religion in the Indonesian archipelago by the 16th century. The Austronesian inhabitants of Polynesia were unaffected by this cultural trade, and retained their indigenous culture in the Pacific region.
Europeans in search of spices later colonized most of the Austronesian speaking countries of the Asia-Pacific region, beginning from the 16th century with the Portuguese, and Spanish colonization of some parts of Indonesia (present day East Timor), the Philippines, Palau, Guam, and the Mariana Islands; the Dutch colonization of the Indonesian archipelago; the British colonization of Malaysia and Oceania; the French colonization of French Polynesia; and later, the American governance of the Pacific.
Meanwhile, the British, Germans, French, Americans, and Japanese began establishing spheres of influence within the Pacific Islands during the 19th and early 20th centuries. The Japanese later invaded most of Southeast Asia and some parts of the Pacific during World War II. The latter half of the 20th century initiated independence of modern-day Malaysia, Philippines, the Indonesia, and many of the Pacific Island nations.

Temperatures on Prince Charles and Princess Diana's July wedding day reached 24C

Prince William and Kate Middleton can expect clear skies and sunshine on their wedding day if the weather is anything like previous years.

While it is too early for a detailed forecast, the Met Office has analysed the weather for previous 29 April's.

It found the average high during the last 20 years was a mild 16.6C.

Early April saw some very warm spells, with parts of Britain recording temperatures of 21C, hotter than Rome, Athens and Los Angeles.

On 29 April 1994, temperatures in London climbed to a balmy 23.4C.

And in the past two years, St James Park in central London has been bathed in sunshine on 29 April, with temperatures peaking at 19.5C last year.

The coolest 29 April was in 2004 at 10C.

Despite this month's reputation for showers, average rainfall on 29 April over the last 20 years has been a low 2.6mm.

The Met Office has also looked at the warm, wet or windy weddings of royal couples from earlier generations.

Prince Charles and Princess Diana's July wedding date was a dry, sunny day with temperatures up to 24.4C.

The prince's second wedding to the Duchess of Cornwall on 9 April 2005 was a cooler affair, with highs of 11.3C.

Colder still was the weather on the December day in 1992 when Princess Anne married Timothy Laurence at Balmoral when temperatures reached no higher than 7C.

Human wave brings festival to a head

Tens of thousands of Songkran revellers in Khon Kaen are expected to break their own record today as they round off the three-day water festival with a gigantic human wave.

Last year's event, which took place on Khao Neaw Road, drew 42,652 participants. This year, the event organiser has sectioned off 800m of road, up from 650m, to ensure it can accommodate bigger crowds.

Revellers have been warming up for today's main event. On Wednesday, 23,104 people joined in a human wave for the first day of Songkran.

In Bangkok on Wednesday, Thailand landed an official Guinness World Record when 3,477 revellers gathered in front of CentralWorld and took part in the largest ever water pistol fight.

Meanwhile, the Road Safety Centre yesterday reported that 57 people were killed in road accidents on Wednesday _ the third day of the so-called "seven dangerous days" of Songkran. The total death toll now stands at 116. The number of road accidents and casualties were less than for the same period last year. As of Wednesday, 1,626 accidents were reported with 1,760 people injured.

According to the centre, the main reason for most injuries is riding a motorcycle without a crash helmet. About 30% of the victims are under 20.

Two people have been arrested for violating a ban on the sale of alcohol on Tuesday and Wednesday, said Deputy Public Health Minister Punsiri Kullanartsiri.

The first arrest was made in Phetchaburi's Cha-am district when a vendor allegedly sold alcohol in a temple compound.

Another vendor was arrested for allegedly selling alcohol at a petrol station in Prachuap Khiri Khan.

The ministry has received various complaints about sale of alcohol on Khao San Road in Bangkok and police have been asked to look into the matter.

For Linkin Park vocalist, aid for Japan is personal

Mike Shinoda saw images of the devastation in Japan and knew he had to do something.

The co-frontman of Linkin Park immediately took to Twitter and asked his fans to brainstorm ideas for a T-shirt to benefit victims of the 9.0 earthquake and tsunami that has claimed the lives of more than 11,000 people with 17,000 more missing.

Someone suggested an origami crane. Shinoda, a graduate of Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, California, thought an origami butterfly would be more appropriate.

"That's more a symbol of rebirth -- you know, the caterpillar turning into the butterfly," he said.

The black and white butterfly tee and a second T-shirt design with the words "Not Alone" emblazoned on the front are available on the group's Music for Relief website (musicforrelief.org), with all proceeds going to benefit Save the Children's relief efforts in Japan.

There's also a Download to Donate initiative, where fans can pledge a minimum of $10 to access a digital album featuring unreleased tracks by a growing number of artists -- including R.E.M., Angels & Airwaves, Sara Bareilles, The Ting Tings, Talib Kweli and Slash. The last track is a Linkin Park instrumental inspired by the tsunami called "Issho Ni."

"Music for Relief is not Linkin Park for Relief," says Shinoda. "Right now, we've got folks on the Board of Music for Relief from MTV, from Fuse, from other bands. We hope that other artists will feel welcome to jump on board and contribute in some way."

Linkin Park founded Music for Relief in 2005 in the aftermath of the tsunami in the Indian Ocean that caused mass destruction and loss of life from Sri Lanka to Indonesia.

"We had just toured in Southeast Asia, and when we got home, we were seeing the images of the devastation on the news -- and these were happening in places we had just visited," Shinoda said. "I think first and foremost, we tend to get involved in endeavors that are closest to our hearts."

Since then, Music for Relief says that it has raised more than $3.9 million for victims of natural disasters around the world, including Hurricane Katrina, wildfires in Southern California and Australia and monsoon flooding in Pakistan. Shinoda says the organization's Download to Donate program for Haiti has raised more than $270,000.

Japan Hit by 7.1 Aftershock; Workers Evacuated From Fukushima

April 8 (Bloomberg) -- Japan suffered the biggest aftershock since the day of the March 11 earthquake, prompting the operator of the stricken Fukushima nuclear plant to evacuate workers while they were cooling radioactive fuel.

The magnitude-7.1 temblor struck at 11:32 p.m. local time yesterday near the site of last month’s record quake in Japan, the U.S. Geological Survey reported on its website. No unusual conditions were observed at the Fukushima plant, according to statements from Tokyo Electric Power Co. and Japan’s Nuclear and Industrial Safety Agency.

“Indications of new leakage or a change in radiation levels will be the only way they’ll tell if there’s further damage,” Murray Jennix, a nuclear engineer who specialized in radioactive containment leaks and teaches at San Diego State University, said in a telephone interview. “You’ve got cracks that could have been made bigger.”

Two people died and 93 were injured from yesterday’s quake, the Fire and Disaster Management Agency said, as more than 3.6 million households lost power. Tokyo Electric, the operator of the Fukushima Dai-Ichi plant 220 kilometers (137 miles) north of Tokyo, evacuated 15 workers who were pumping nitrogen into the No. 1 reactor to prevent hydrogen explosions of the type that damaged radiation containment buildings last month.

Work at Fukushima wasn’t affected by the quake, Tokyo Electric spokesman Takashi Kurita said by telephone today. There have been no signs of changes in radiation levels or damage at the plant, he said.

Injecting Nitrogen

Tepco, as the utility is known, started injecting nitrogen, the most prevalent inert gas in the atmosphere, into the reactor early yesterday and the process may take six days, spokesman Yoshinori Mori said before the aftershock.

Shares of Tepco rose 3.8 percent to 353 yen as of 10:48 a.m. Tokyo time. The stock has slumped 86 percent since the quake on March 11.

“They are manually injecting nitrogen through a very narrow pipe,” Tadashi Narabayashi, a professor of nuclear engineering at Hokkaido University in northern Japan, said by phone yesterday. “High radiation levels in the building are also making it difficult as workers have to keep rotating.”

Tepco is still using emergency pumps to cool the reactors and pools holding spent fuel, almost four weeks after the initial disaster. Three blasts damaged reactor buildings and hurled radiation into the air last month.

Tohoku Electric Power Co., the main power supplier to Japan’s north, restarted its No. 2 350-megawatt oil-fired unit at the Akita plant this morning, spokesman Kazuya Sugawara said by telephone today. Five units at three of its thermal power plants remain shut after the aftershock, he said.

Power Lost

Tohoku Electric also restored power at its Higashidori nuclear power plant in northern Japan this morning, Sugawara said. Cooling systems at the utility’s Onagawa nuclear station, which was safely shut down after the March 11 quake, were operating normally, Sugawara said. Two of three power lines remain disabled to the station, he said.

The Rokkasho nuclear material reprocessing facility lost its outside power source and is running on emergency diesel generation, Japan’s Nuclear Industrial Safety Agency said.

East Japan Railway Co., the nation’s largest rail operator, suspended bullet train services on three of its five lines. The train operator halted the Tohoku, Yamagata and Akita lines, according to a release on its website.

‘Tremendously Smaller’

There have been 897 aftershocks since last month’s temblor, which left more than 27,600 dead or missing and caused an estimated 25 trillion yen ($294 billion) in damage.

The magnitude-7.1 temblor was measured at a depth of about 49 kilometers, the U.S. Geological Survey reported on its website. A tsunami alert for a possible two-meter wave was canceled by Japan about two hours later. There was a magnitude- 7.9 aftershock on March 11 about half an hour after the main quake, according to the USGS.

“It is tremendously smaller than the main shock,” said Don Blakeman, a geophysicist in the U.S. National Earthquake Information Center in Golden, Colorado. “The main shock caused about 80 times more ground movement.”

AUSTIN, Tex. — Takahito Iguchi zipped through his presentation on Japan’s mobile social scene here on Monday until he got to his last slide: SAVE JAPAN.

Gree, a social networks in Japan, set up a way for users to buy virtual goods to donate money to earthquake victims.
Then his voice broke with emotion as he asked members of the audience to think about the people of Japan struggling in the aftermath of the devastating earthquake and tsunami.

Mr. Iguchi is one of about a dozen technology executives from Japan at South by Southwest, the annual technology, film and music conference that attracts thousands of people from all over the world. He said he learned about the massive earthquake by e-mail from a colleague shortly after he landed at the airport here. He turned to Twitter, Facebook and Mixi, the largest social network in Japan, to check on family and friends and to find out what was going on.

He said that, fortunately, his own family was safe. Instead of returning immediately home, Mr. Iguchi said he decided to remain at the conference and join other technology executives here from Japan to help organize support for victims of the catastrophe.

“We decided the best thing we can do is to bring encouragement and assistance from our open-minded friends here at South by Southwest,” said Mr. Iguchi, chief executive officer of Tonchidot, a mobile location-based service.

Other groups have now joined the fund-raising effort, SXSW4Japan, which has raised $40,000 in the last few days. The hashtag on Twitter is #savejapan. The money will go to the Red Cross in Japan.

Mr. Iguchi was on a panel with three other executives from Japan’s mobile and social networks. After the one hour discussion that focused primarily on the huge growth in the use of these services and social gaming in Japan, the executives described in interviews how mobile and social sites became vital when the earthquake struck because landlines went down, as did voice and e-mail services on cellphones.

“We saw an 800 percent spike in traffic,” said Tak Miyata, senior vice president of global business at Mixi, who was on the 19th floor of the company’s headquarters in Tokyo when the earthquake struck. “Mixi is a network for people’s friends and family and so it became a lifeline for our users.”

Keeping data flowing became the top priority for the business, he said. “It sounds very simple but it is most important.” He said the service had also focused on helping people locate loved ones, provide information about resources and help raise aid money.

Eiji Araki, vice president of Gree International, one of the first social networks in Japan, said the company quickly set up a way for people to buy “virtual goods,” like a flower, using its micropayment system, to help raise money for the people affected by the earthquake and tsunami. Gree has raised more than $1.7 million this way so far.

He said people were using the site to continue to exchange information about family and friends. They were also using it to share concerns about the nuclear crisis and the rolling power failures.

Serkan Toto, a technology consultant in Japan and moderator of the panel, said that the information exchanged on social sites was highly valued because people had small personal networks of close family and friends. “In Japan, because all three mobile social networks are closed, the level of trust is very high, so the information that you get is very intimate, very direct” said Mr. Toto, who is also a blogger for TechCrunch, the blog about technology.

Twitter is also very popular in Japan. About 10 percent of Japan’s 100 million Internet users are active on Twitter.

While Twitter has been a useful source of information, Mr. Toto said that it presented risks during these difficult times. “Twitter is an easy way for people to spread rumors and spread unverified information,” he said. “I personally saw a couple of tweets about radiation in Tokyo. This could create panic. Social media is great but not without its faults.”

Save Japan Today Campaign

Students at Binghamton University have united to support Japan in these difficult times.
A group called Save Japan Today is collecting donations to send to the area devastated by the earthquake and tsunami.

The money will help purchase medical supplies and food for the survivors.
Students are also creating a banner with well wishes to send to Japan to show that people on the other side of the globe are thinking of them.

Organizer Megan Wu says while there are not many Japanese students at BU, many other groups are helping out.Megan Wu says, "For me obviously it is completely heartbreaking and then all the way in America we are seeing the disaster pictures everyday, every single day in the headlines so it is unbelievable. And also the prime minister of Japan said this is the worst disaster ever since the World War 2."

Japanese ordered indoors in radiation leak crisis

SOMA, Japan (AP) — High levels of radiation leaked from a crippled nuclear plant in tsunami-ravaged northeastern Japan after a third reactor was rocked by an explosion Tuesday and a fourth caught fire in a dramatic escalation of the 4-day-old catastrophe. The government warned 140,000 people nearby to stay indoors to avoid exposure.

Tokyo also reported slightly elevated radiation levels, but officials said the increase was too small to threaten the 39 million people in and around the capital, about 170 miles (270 kilometers) away.

In a nationally televised statement, Prime Minister Naoto Kan said radiation has spread from four reactors of the Fukushima Dai-ichi nuclear plant in Fukushima state, one of the hardest-hit in Friday's 9.0-magnitude earthquake and the ensuing tsunami that has killed more than 10,000 people, plunged millions into misery and pummeled the world's third-largest economy.

Officials just south of Fukushima reported up to 100 times the normal levels of radiation Tuesday morning, Kyodo News agency reported. While those figures are worrying if there is prolonged exposure, they are far from fatal.

Kan and other officials warned there is danger of more leaks and told people living within 19 miles (30 kilometers) of the Fukushima Dai-ichi complex to stay indoors to avoid exposure that could make people sick.

"Please do not go outside. Please stay indoors. Please close windows and make your homes airtight," Chief Cabinet Secretary Yukio Edano told residents in the danger zone. "Don't turn on ventilators. Please hang your laundry indoors."

"These are figures that potentially affect health. There is no mistake about that," he said.

Weather forecasts for Fukushima were for snow and wind from the northeast Tuesday evening, blowing southwest toward Tokyo, then shifting and blowing west out to sea. That's important because it shows which direction a possible nuclear cloud might blow.

The nuclear crisis is the worst Japan has faced since the atomic bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki during World War II. It is also the first time that such a grave nuclear threat has been raised in the world since a nuclear power plant in Chernobyl, Ukraine exploded in 1986.

Some 70,000 people had already been evacuated from a 12-mile (20-kilometer) radius from the Dai-ichi complex and about 140,000 remain in the zone for which the new warning was issued.

Workers were striving to stabilize three reactors at the power plant that exploded in the wake of Friday's quake and tsunami, after losing their ability to cool down and releasing some radiation. A fourth reactor that was shut down caught fire on Tuesday and more radiation was released, Edano said.

The fire was put out. Even though the fourth reactor was shut down, the fire there was believed to be the source of the elevated radiation.

"It is likely that the level of radiation increased sharply due to a fire at Unit 4," Edano said. "Now we are talking about levels that can damage human health. These are readings taken near the area where we believe the releases are happening. Far away, the levels should be lower."

He said another reactor whose containment building exploded Monday had not contributed greatly to the increased radiation.

Officials said 50 workers, all of them wearing protective radiation gear, were still trying to put water into the reactors to cool them. They say 800 other staff were evacuated. The fires and explosions at the reactors have injured 15 workers and military personnel and exposed up to 190 people to elevated radiation.

In Tokyo, slightly higher-than-normal radiation levels were detected Tuesday but officials insisted there are no health dangers.

"The amount is extremely small, and it does not raise health concerns. It will not affect us," Takayuki Fujiki, a Tokyo government official said.

Kyodo reported that radiation levels nine times higher than normal were briefly detected in Kanagawa prefecture near Tokyo and that the Tokyo metropolitan government said it had detected a small amount of radioactive materials in the city's air.

Japanese government officials are being rightly cautious, said Donald Olander, professor emeritus of nuclear engineering at University of California at Berkeley. He believed even the heavily elevated levels of radiation around Dai'ichi are "not a health hazard." But without knowing specific dose levels, he said it was hard to make judgments on the evacuation orders.

"Right now it's worse than Three Mile Island," Olander said. But, he said, it's nowhere near the levels released during Chernobyl.

On Three Mile Island, the radiation leak was held inside the containment shell — thick concrete armor around the reactor. The Chernobyl reactor had no shell and was also operational when the disaster struck. The Japanese reactors automatically shut down when the quake hit and are encased in containment shells.

Olander said encasing the reactors in a concrete sarcophagus — the last-ditch effort done in Chernobyl — is far too premature. Operators need to wait until they cool more, or risk making the situation even worse.

The death toll from last week's earthquake and tsunami jumped Tuesday as police confirmed the number killed had topped 2,400, though that grim news was overshadowed by a deepening nuclear crisis. Officials have said previously that at least 10,000 people may have died in Miyagi province alone.

Millions of people spent a fourth night with little food, water or heating in near-freezing temperatures as they dealt with the loss of homes and loved ones. Asia's richest country hasn't seen such hardship since World War II.

Hajime Sato, a government official in Iwate prefecture, one of the hardest-hit, said deliveries of supplies were only 10 percent of what is needed. Body bags and coffins were running so short that the government may turn to foreign funeral homes for help, he said.

Though Japanese officials have refused to speculate on the death toll, Indonesian geologist Hery Harjono, who dealt with the 2004 Asian tsunami, said it would be "a miracle really if it turns out to be less than 10,000" dead.

The 2004 tsunami killed 230,000 people — of which only 184,000 bodies were found.

The impact of the earthquake and tsunami on the world's third-largest economy helped drag down the share markets. The benchmark Nikkei 225 stock average plunged for a second day Tuesday, nose-diving more than 12 percent to 8,422.21 while the broader Topix lost 13 percent.

To lessen the damage, Japan's central bank injected $61.2 billion Tuesday into the money markets after pumping in $184 billion on Monday.

Initial estimates put repair costs in the tens of billions of dollars, costs that would likely add to a massive public debt that, at 200 percent of gross domestic product, is the biggest among industrialized nations.

In a bid to stop the reactors at the nuclear plant from melting down, engineers have been injecting seawater as a coolant of last resort.

Yuta Tadano, a 20-year-old pump technician at the Fukushima power plant, said he was on the second floor of an office building in the complex when quake hit.

"It was terrible. The desks were thrown around and the tables too. The walls started to crumble around us and there was dust everywhere. The roof began to collapse.

"We got outside and confirmed everyone was safe . Then we got out of there. We had no time to be tested for radioactive exposure. I still haven't been tested," Tadano told The Associated Press at an evacuation center outside the exclusion zone.

"We live about 10 kilometers (6 miles) from the facility. We had to figure out on our own where to go," said Tadano, cradling his 4-month-old baby, Shoma. "I worry a lot about fallout. If we could see it we could escape, but we can't."

The Dai-ichi plant is the most severely affected of three nuclear complexes that were declared emergencies after suffering damage in Friday's quake and tsunami, raising questions about the safety of such plants in coastal areas near fault lines and adding to global jitters over the industry.

AAA (Japanese Group)

AAA is a super performance unit consisting of seven co-eds. On September 14th, 2005, they debuted as an eight member group performing their single "Blood on Fire".

At the end of 2005, AAA received the best new performer award in the "47th Japanese Record Contest". This accomplishment happened less than four months after their debut.

On September 13th, 2006, just a year after their debut, AAA performed live at Nihon Budoukan. Roughly ten thousand fans showed up to support them.

On June 11th, 2007, one of the members, Yuri Goto, withdrew from AAA.

Amongst their singing and dancing talents, each of the members performs in Hollywood Movies and TV dramas as actors and actresses. They also perform on the theatrical stage; take the lead as an MC for TV programs; and work as models. AAA is a very energetic group. We expect to see them continuing their activity in the far future.

there's no doubt that the whole hk cantopop industry is pivoted on mark lui [雷颂德], and mark lui alone. i can't imagine 90s and the new milennium cantopop without him. if mark lui were to die today then the whole cantopop music industry in hk will collapse overnight.

as much as he is a godfather of modern cantopop in hk, he has his fair share of critics and detractors. those who are not discerning may not know why he is criticised all these years but i shall count his sins here.

he is not the most talented producer that hk has ever seen but definitely he is the smartest and most wicked producer of all. he has the ability to plagiarize from western music without people knowing (at least not to the majority of undemanding cantopop followers) and make it into his own. it is like a jigsaw puzzle; he steals a bit from here and a bit from there, and voila! he forms a new piece of art!

from his early days with kelly chen [陈慧琳] , he has been heavily influenced (to use a polite term) by stock-aitken-waterman (SAW), the ace producer trio from UK in the 80s, who was responsible for dance pop darlings such as rick astley, bananarama and kylie minogue. kelly hit the charts with her "unique" brand of dance music but very few know that it is totally unoriginal!

mark lui is the chief culprit responsible for creating this genre of trashy cantopop called "K- songs", which stands for karaoke-friendly songs. this brand of music is shallow, repeatedly and annoyingly catchy and most importantly, forgettable after a few rounds. many cantopop superstars today benefitted from his k-songs. many industry people in hk have told me that "k-songs" are living in dying breath. it won't be long before people realize how cheap it is. just look at the career doldrums of miriam yeung [杨千桦] and leo ku [古巨基] now. they are passe, over the prime already.

having said that, mark lui does have some talents. his is single-handedly responsible for the mega success of leon lai, miriam yeung, leo ku and many others. i am not here to take away his glory from making hk pop music industy sustainable over the last two decades.

4 years ago, he created janice vidal [wai lan, 卫兰], which to me is the most promising singer hk has seen for a while. the debut album "day and night", with its cool mix of jazz and bossa, was such a breath of fresh air to my ears. i still love that album after all these years. i thought i found hope in mark lui again. and i regard janice as the saving grace for hk cantopop.

4 albums later, i picked up this latest album called "serving you". guess what? mark lui copied all over the places! so many familiar tunes in so many places. it is as if mark lui used all his collective best tricks over the years and cooked up this album. there are so many sure-fire ingredients of "k-songs" in this album that it can guarantee a certain degree of success in the market. already, i am told that this album is the top-grossing album in hk in 2008. i have never ever suspected mark's cleverness but he can't fool us over and over again. no doubt, some of the songs sound annoyingly catchy but it could have been done for miriam yeung or leo ku or justin lo [侧田] with the same resutls. if not because of janice's angelic voice, the songs would have been relegated to those despicable "k-songs" again.

to me, all mark lui's releases this year have been bad but janice's album is the best of the worst. i leave you to figure out if that is a compliment or insult.

YUI's new double A-side single has been revealed! It is called "It's My Life" and the other A-side will be "Your Heaven" As previously reported, this single will be out on January 26th, 2011.

Hoot, hoot, hoot~~~ i can’t stop listening to this song! its been on replay for a looong time ^^ sorry this post is a bit late~ but as usual SNSD have pwned my brain with this song~ and asdfghjk i just love this whole album!! i’m so glad that they’re back! i really like the concept, its so Austin Powers! AND COLORFUL!!! <3 my favorite outfits were the black outfits Hyoyeon, Yuri and Sooyoung were wearing~ and SIWON!!! he looks so sleek and detective-y looking :D but again…very very less of Hyoyeon D: why is she always barely shown >.< the dance was so awesome too!!!!! specially when they sing “trouble, trouble, trouble” i love love love that part!! <3 anyways, i’ll just get on to the caps now :)
