John’s Mistress (Malaysia)

John’s Mistress was formed in 1997 by the main lead vocalist Kon Hiro Fumi and three other talented youngsters who were eager to make it in the world of music. When they approached Positive Tone a local independent music label, their talents were quickly recognized and they were given a recording contract immediately. After a slight change in the line-up, they became a trio with Fumi remaining as the original member of the group. The former members were replaced by Hans the bassist and Chino the drummer. Two years later, on March 13th 2000, they released their debut album, “They Stereotyped You Too?” which their hit single ‘Numb’ was met with enthusiasm and quickly climbed the local chart on 2 of the most popular radio stations at that time, hitz.fm and WOW.fm. So catchy was the single that apparel-maker, Levi’s decided to use it as their theme song for their marketing campaign for The Levi’s 2000 Collection. Besides Numb, other tracks like ‘Boring Day’ ,‘Faraway’, and ‘First Sight’ also received good applause and were steadily climbing the local charts. Soon enough, John’s Mistress began to grow in structure. They were invited to perform in numerous shows, namingly the hugely successful ‘Rock The World’ shows, organized by FatBoys Event and attended by a crowd over 10,000 people. Some of their most talked about show was Sunday Nite Live at Planet Hollywood, the G-string Affair At MCities Much Music and many More…And the band as well opened for few International acts such as Scopions, The Moffatts, Atomic kitten..Etc. John’s Mistress was known as the crowd puller for the young and hip and soon enough Maxis, Malaysia’s biggest private communications network sponsored John’s Mistress to spearhead their campaign. Soon the other companies began catching on, and John’s Mistress was sponsored by Pepsi as well a Salem to be part of their campaign to promote their products. John’s Mistress’s popularity was further bloomed when Fumi, featured in the most talked about World Cup Hockey theme song, hosted by Malaysia in the year 2002. In the year 2001, John’s Mistress was nominated for three awards in Anugerah Industri Musik 2001 (AIM 2001). And the awards were for Best New Artiste, Best English Album and Best Music Video. Along the way, both of Fumi’s bandmates, Chino and Hans left the band to continue their studies. To date, John’s Mistress had sold more than 5000 copies of their albums Malaysian wide. After six years away from the local mainstream, John’s Mistress with their new line up is set to make a serious come back.
