Anger even spilled on to the streets, with mounted police called to break up 200 rioting Dutch fans in The Hague, leading to 40 arrests. Hundreds of thousands of supporters left Amsterdam after a planned victory parade along the capital's canals was cancelled.
Fifa president Sepp Blatter said that Webb was set a "very hard task" by the players and coaches, and questioned their "fair play", but one of the participants, Wesley Sneijder said the English referee perpetrated a "scandal" with his handling of the match, which Spain won 1-0 after extra-time.
